AMERICA, WHAT ARE WE DOING?

On a recent trip to a theme park in the Orlando area with my daughter, her husband and my grandchildren, we found ourselves inching our way in one of those familiar long lines to get on a popular ride.
My son law stuck up a conversation with the man walking behind him. I could not help but eavesdrop on this conversation between the two.
The man explained that this was the first time at the park for him, wife and two young daughters, so he asked about this particular ride and if was worth the wait.
My son in law who is a frequent visitor to the all the theme parks was more than happy to give his opinion on the ride and tips on what to see in the rest of the park and what to skip.
As the two spoke, the man explained that his time with the family was limited but he hoped to spend an extra day with them in the park however his financial situation did not permit it. He did try to get a discount on multiple days however the discount offered to him came out to be about four dollars a day per person.
Anyone who has ever been to any Orlando Florida area attraction knows four dollars a day does not amount to a hill of beans.
At that point, I felt that I could certainly identify with the man’s situation. Or so I thought.
As we continued to inch our way to the ride, the two spoke about a great many things.
At one point my son in law asked the man what line of work he was in, when this man said what he did and why he chose to bring his family to Orlando, I felt that I could no longer refer to this person as “A MAN” he instantly became far more than that to me.
He told my son in law that he was in the military and was on a short leave from his unit in Iraq and in a few days needed to return.
I was sick to my stomach, extremely embarrassed for my country!
This hero and his family should have never paid a penny for the trip, food or hotel. Furthermore, they should have never waited in the hot sun to get on this or any other ride.
I am sickened by what is happening to members of the military; being charged for bags on airlines, homes being foreclosed on, cars reposed. This is disgusting, it must stop now.
If I were a person of financial means, I would have paid for this hero’s trip to Orlando and made sure he and his family was comfortable in the short time they had together.
I and my family can go to the theme parks whenever we want because of people like this hero. He puts his life on the line everyday to ensure so we can enjoy not only Orlando but all the other recreational parks in America.
